After the success of « the Dijon International Adventure Film Festival (November 3- 6, 2011) » and 33 years of experience in organising documentary film festivals, La Guilde is pleased to present a new event in the cinema industry.

The first World Sea Film Festival will be held in the outstanding congress hall « Le Kursaal » in Dunkerque on July 1st-3rd.

This festival gives us the opportunity to promote documentary films the scope of which goes far beyond marine adventure. Thus, the festival will be screening documentaries dealing with a wide range of sea related themes: environmental issues and marine exploration, adventure and water sports, sea oriented jobs.

Once again, the festival will host a film competition. Its jury will be composed of personalities involved in the cinema industry, sea related jobs, sports and environmental issues.

Films will be competing for 5 awards granted by the City Council, the metropolitan area of Dunkerque and the Nord-Pas de Calais Regional Council:

- Jean Bart award: grand prix (cash prize: 4,000€);
- Award for the best sea-related environmental issues and marine exploration film (cash prize: 1,350€);
- Award for the best sea-related job film (cash prize: 1,350€);
- Award for the best adventures & water sports film (cash prize: 1,350€);
- Award for young director (cash prize: 1,350€).

Selection Committee didn’t receive enough films to host an animated films category. This category is canceled for this first edition and is reported to next year edition.

We hope to meet you in Dunkerque, by the North Sea and in the deep heart of Europe, for this first great event celebrating the sea in its stupendous diversity.
