Where are our ships? (Où sont nos navires ?)

A film by Jean-François Pahun. Production: Sundeck Films, France Télévisions. France – 52 min. – 2012.

In 1945, the daily newspaper Ouest-France raises the following question: ‘Where are our ships?’ Delivered by the Americans to the Allies after the war, the Liberty Ships represent the renewal of French merchant navy. A navy on its way back to the roads leading to the colonial empire and engaging young sailors just out of their navy schools. Over the decade following the war, the fleet is coming back to life, just like the building of ships from Dunkirk’s and the Ciotat’s shipyards.
